Hydroquinone is one of the most popular whitening agents of the skin. It is widely used to remove skin spots, melasma, scar colors, etc. Hydroquinone is a bleaching agent. Hydroquinone reduces the production of melanin (pigment of skin color) and increases its breakdown. Hydroquinone formulations (creams) are available both the-counter products and prescription. Prescription products are higher in strength.
Hydroquinone stops the production of more than melanin (the pigment in skin color) and breaks down the existing excess melanin, on the ground to be treated. Melanin is the pigment that gives skin its color. Once melanin is reduced color excess leaves.
